CO2e was founded to help decarbonize the built environment and to provide corporate sustainability education.

The Challenges

  1. The world emits over 50 Billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year, which is driving unprecedented global warming. This impacts us all, whether it is the increasing frequency and severity of heat events, forest fires, droughts, rising sea levels or warming oceans.
  2. The building sector accounts for 40% of global emissions.
  3. “Companies are launching sustainability initiatives at an unprecedented pace….Half-hearted initiatives that do not consistently translate into tangible corporate action are quickly condemned as greenwashing. ”Ernst & Young, “Why Sustainability Has Become a Corporate Imperative”, June 2021.
  4. “After positive beginnings, most sustainability programs get stuck and are unable to scale”. Harvard Business Review, “How Sustainability Efforts Fall Apart”, September 2022.

The Solutions: A Call to Action

  1. Up to 60% of a building’s emissions over its lifetime are locked in at the design and build stages, which provides a narrow window to have a big impact.
  2.  Integrating sustainability expertise at the design stage of a new build or retrofit project is the most important impact you can have on reducing the carbon footprint of a building.
  3.  Sustainability education helps companies to tap into the movement for greater corporate social responsibility and provide employees a more meaningful work experience.
  4.  Education is the most effective strategy for scaling sustainability efforts and achieving transformative outcomes.
